Christian Citizens Respond to Inflation
“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat [,drink, and wear]?’ … for your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
God calls his people not to fear and trust in His provision. In this season of inflation, it’s especially imperative that we remember this commandment. If things aren’t going our way, that does not mean we turn our back to our faith and abandon our Christian duties.
Times like these are an opportunity for the church to step up and be a blessing to our communities. Our generosity will be more deeply felt by our neighbors, and through it our witness will also shine brighter and reach neighbors who would otherwise never listen.
It does not matter how much we give. Only that we do. Just like the hungry widow with only a jar of oil or the widow with two coins. As we weather this time of high inflation, we must not lose sight of what really matters—our ability to love our neighbors and bear witness for our Savior.
In the meantime, God will not forget us, nor will he forsake us. Already we are seeing relief from high inflation. Gas prices are dropping steadily across the country, putting money back in the pockets of hard working Americans seeking to provide for their families. The surge in home prices is slowing. The unemployment rate remains low.
Despite what the news says, things aren’t all bad. Most people are kind and continue to help those they meet. Churches are stepping up and sharing Christ’s love. And we are blessed to live in the country with the most opportunities of anywhere in the world.
May we remember this in the days to come. And may God continue to bless the USA.
